saint gildas
Au cœur de la Bretagne, des dizaines de statues représentant les saints bretons ont élu domicile sur une colline d'où ils semblent contempler la région. Chaque année, de nouveaux géants sont taillés dans le granit et rendent le paysage toujours plus fantastique.
saint gildas
In the heart of Brittany, dozens of statues representing the Saints Bretons have chosen to dwell on a hill from which they seem to contemplate the region. Every year, new giants are carved in granite and make the landscape ever more fantastic.
Near Carhaix and its inevitable festival of old ploughs, another huge project is gradually settling down: The Valley of the Saints. 1 500 years ago, monks and priests from Great Britain came ashore on the Breton coast. Some, such as Malo or BRIEUC, have marked the territory. In the village of Carnoët, sculptors make granite statues of 4 meters high of these saints and place them on a feudal clod from where the view extends to the mountains of D'arrée. Each one has a very special style: one resembles the little Prince, another one is a North American Indian. In 2015, the site already had about 50. Guided tours are organized in the summer. From May to September you can also watch the sculptors work. For people who walk little, it is possible to see many statues while remaining in a restricted perimeter. People in a wheelchair will be able to follow a path around the site.
